History
Crystallized in early-1970s Britain as folk-rock acts absorbed prog's structural ambition - Jethro Tull turned folk into suites, Fairport Convention electrified traditional ballads, and Renaissance fused folk melody with orchestral arrangement. Strawbs and Comus pushed it darker; the strain stayed a touchstone for later prog-folk and chamber-folk revivalists.
