Post-Punk Revival is the 2000s return of wiry guitars, bass-led grooves, clipped vocals, severe fashion and anxious city-night energy. It took cues from Joy Division, Gang of Four, Wire, The Cure and Talking Heads, then translated them into indie clubs, festival stages and alternative radio. The sound can be sleek or jagged, but it usually favors rhythmic tension over rock heaviness and atmosphere over blues-based release.
History
Interpol, The Strokes, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Rapture, Franz Ferdinand, Bloc Party, Editors and early LCD Soundsystem made post-punk references feel current in the early 2000s. New York and UK scenes were central, but the revival quickly became global. Later waves, from Savages to Fontaines D.C. and Idles-adjacent scenes, treated post-punk less as nostalgia and more as a durable framework for anxiety, politics and repetition.
