History
Emerged in the late 90s as labels chased grunge's commercial weight without its noise, smoothing the sound for active-rock radio. Creed, Nickelback, and 3 Doors Down sold tens of millions with formulaic but durable hooks, and Seether and Puddle of Mudd kept the format thriving through the 2000s. It became the decade's default loud-rock radio sound.
