Pop-Rock Blues uses blues riffs, guitar solos, vocal bends and trouble-centered lyrics inside pop-rock structures. It is less traditional than blues-rock and more radio-facing than roots rock blues. Choruses are bigger, production is tighter, and the blues vocabulary often appears as color rather than the whole grammar. History
Blues has fed rock since the beginning, but pop-rock blues became especially clear when guitar-based mainstream acts borrowed blues attitude without committing to blues formats. John Mayer, The Black Keys, Gary Clark Jr., Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Jonny Lang, Alabama Shakes, Hozier and The White Stripes all made blues gestures legible to rock and pop audiences in different ways. The style remains a durable crossover path for guitar music.
