Kid- and teen-marketed pop built around light, playful rapping: friendly party rhymes over sung pop choruses, bouncy beats and crossover sheen aimed at preteen and teen ears. The raps stay clean and accessible, the hooks turn sugary, and the imagery is youthful — hip-hop's energy filtered into family-radio pop.
History
Will Smith's clean, family-friendly rap-pop set the template, which Lil Bow Wow extended as a child star on Jermaine Dupri's So So Def in 2000. Aaron Carter folded novelty raps into bubblegum, Lil Romeo rode a Jackson 5 sample to the Top 5, and the late-2000s ringtone-rap wave produced teen-crossover smashes like Soulja Boy's 'Crank That,' keeping rap-pop in the teen lane.
