Pop-Punk

Pop-Punk is punk streamlined around melody: fast downstrokes, simple chord changes, bright choruses, teenage perspective, compressed arrangements and hooks that land before the song can get complicated. It keeps punk's economy and attitude but swaps some abrasion for sweetness, humor and emotional immediacy. The style can be bratty, romantic, political or silly, but the core contract is always the same: energy first, chorus second, no wasted motion.
History
Ramones and Buzzcocks supplied the early template, while Descendents made adolescent speed and melody into a long-term model. The 1990s Bay Area and Southern California scenes turned the style into a global force through Green Day, blink-182, The Offspring, NOFX, MxPx and New Found Glory. Pop-punk then fed emo-pop, easycore, skate punk and modern revival scenes because it proved punk could be both accessible and identity-defining without abandoning guitars.
