Fast, bright three-chord punk welded to huge pop hooks: palm-muted power chords, breakneck drumming, nasal singalong vocals, and choruses about girls, boredom, and growing up. Snotty but melodic, it polishes punk's energy into radio-ready hooks with a perpetual teenage-summer attitude.

History

Green Day and The Offspring took Bay Area and SoCal punk mainstream in 1994; Blink-182 added toilet humor and gloss by 1999. The early-2000s wave (New Found Glory, Sum 41, Good Charlotte) ruled MTV and Warped Tour, feeding directly into emo-pop and easycore offshoots that followed.
