Rock built around explicit political argument: state power, capitalism, war, surveillance. Less folksy than protest balladry, it weaponizes volume and groove, often welding funk, metal or post-punk to manifesto-style lyrics aimed at systems rather than single issues.
History
Crystallized as 1960s topical songwriting went electric and angrier. The Clash fused punk to leftist reportage; U2 and Midnight Oil brought arena scale in the 1980s; Rage Against the Machine fused metal and rap to Marxist polemic in the 1990s, making system-critique a mainstream rock mode that persists in modern activist bands.
