Playa Tech

Playa Tech is a Burning Man-coded strain of slow, dusty, melodic house and techno: hypnotic basslines, percussion that feels hand-played or weathered, long arcs for sunrise sets, and enough low-end to work from an art car in open air. It is scene language more than a strict genre, but it is useful because the playa context changed track selection. DJs favored emotional, spacious, shamanic, psychedelic, and groovy records that could survive outdoors without becoming blunt festival EDM.
History
Playa tech emerged from Burning Man sound camps and art cars such as Robot Heart and Mayan Warrior alongside Berlin slow-house, Tulum, organic house, and melodic techno. Acid Pauli, Lee Burridge, Damian Lazarus, Bedouin, Be Svendsen, Satori, Monolink, Rampue, Mira, Christopher Schwarzwälder, Nico Stojan, Britta Arnold, Sabo, Goldcap, Kora, and Kerala Dust became reference points for the sound. It later blurred into Organic House / Downtempo as stores and playlists normalized the vocabulary beyond Black Rock City.
