Piano Blues Ballad is blues lament carried by piano and voice: rolling left hands, churchy chords, barrelhouse touches, jazz voicings or simple triads supporting a singer's story. History

Piano accompanied many classic blues singers and became a central blues voice through artists such as Leroy Carr, Roosevelt Sykes, Memphis Slim, Charles Brown, Ray Charles, Otis Spann and Katie Webster. Carr's smooth urban ballads influenced later blues singing, while Charles Brown and Ray Charles carried piano blues into club, jazz and R&B contexts. The style remains a bridge between blues, gospel, jazz and soul.
