Pinoy pop: a modern Filipino idol-group scene rooted in OPM, applying K-pop-style training and choreography to bright, hook-driven dance-pop sung in Tagalog and English. The sound mixes punchy synths and rap verses with the strong Filipino vocal-harmony tradition, plus brass-and-percussion 'tropical' textures and emotive anthems built for stadiums and fan armies.
History
P-pop's modern wave began with boy band SB19 in 2018, the first Filipino act on Billboard's Social 50. Rooted in 1970s OPM, it scaled fast: SB19's 'Gento' (2023) charted on Billboard's World Digital Song Sales, and girl group BINI, formed in 2019, broke out with 'Pantropiko' (2023), driving global tours and Summer Sonic bookings.
