Organic Downtempo

Organic Downtempo is slow-to-mid-tempo electronic music built from acoustic-seeming texture: hand percussion, dub bass, live strings or flute, folk samples, field recordings, soft synths, and grooves that breathe rather than pump. It differs from generic chillout by making the organic source part of the arrangement, not only surface decoration. It can be psychedelic, Latin American, Balearic, yoga-oriented, or global-electronic, but it usually keeps a grounded pulse and a warm, travel-worn atmosphere.
History
The style traces back to Banco de Gaia, Deep Forest, Afro Celt Sound System, and 1990s global electronica, then through Shpongle, Ott, Kaya Project, Desert Dwellers, Thievery Corporation, and psybient/dub-chill circles. In the 2010s, Nicola Cruz, Chancha Via Circuito, El Búho, Rodrigo Gallardo, Quantic, and Wonderwheel/ZZK-adjacent artists renewed the sound with Latin American folk electronics. Streaming and festival culture later folded the same palette into yoga, ecstatic dance, and organic house.
