History

Grew from Phil Spector's wall of sound and Burt Bacharach's elaborate charts in the mid-'60s, then peaked with Scott Walker's solo LPs, The Walker Brothers and The Moody Blues' orchestra-fronted records. Later sustained by Richard Hawley and ELO-adjacent songwriters who kept symphonic-scale pop alive.
