Old-School Rave is the early rave sound before subgenres fully hardened: acid basslines, breakbeats, techno riffs, diva samples, warehouse pianos, sirens, and euphoric repetition. It is historically broad, covering records that DJs played together before audiences separated house, techno, hardcore, jungle, and trance into distinct lanes. The charm is its looseness and handmade intensity.
History
The old-school period came out of acid house and warehouse culture as UK and European producers began sampling aggressively and writing tracks for large rave systems. Moby, T99, N-Joi, Orbital, The KLF, Altern-8, LFO, Joey Beltram, Human Resource, Kicks Like a Mule, Messiah, and Bizarre Inc. made many of the defining anthems. The style remains a memory code for flyers, lasers, illegal parties, and the moment dance music felt like a shared underground language.
