Nu-Disco Pop
tagStarted 2010Peak 2013-2021Last big hit still active
A 21st-century revival of disco-pop: live or live-sounding funk-guitar scratch (often real Nile Rodgers), warm analog-leaning bass, a four-on-the-floor kick, vintage string and synth pads, and crisp modern radio production. It chases 70s disco euphoria while keeping tight, contemporary pop song-craft and sheen.
History
Built on 2000s European nu-disco edits, it broke mainstream in 2013 when Daft Punk's 'Random Access Memories' and its Nile Rodgers-driven single 'Get Lucky' topped charts worldwide. Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson sustained the funk-pop wave, and Dua Lipa's 'Future Nostalgia' (2020) cemented disco's glittering return to the Hot 100.
