History
As local and network news expanded in the 1960s and 1970s, specialist composers and music houses built dedicated news packages that stations licensed nationwide. In the United States, Frank Gari's syndicated packages such as "Turn to News" and "Hello News" and the Score Productions catalog standardized the sound, while John Williams' majestic "The Mission" for NBC Nightly News (1985) brought symphonic grandeur to the format and James Newton Howard later scored the CBS Evening News.
