History
Ensemble new age matured as the genre embraced orchestral and choral forces in the late 1980s and 1990s: Yanni staged instrumental concerts with orchestra, Karl Jenkins's Adiemus project (from 1995) paired invented-syllable vocals with orchestra and percussion, and Norway's Secret Garden fused Celtic and classical textures. German world-new-age band Cusco and the American ensembles Shadowfax and Mannheim Steamroller brought group interplay and production spectacle. The style thrived in classical-crossover, film-adjacent and inspirational markets and continues in cinematic-calm streaming playlists.
