Neo-Western Country

Neo-Western country revives cowboy and open-range imagery but records it with modern clarity: roomy snares, classic steel and fiddle, occasional Western swing touches, and vocals that balance stoicism with cinematic sweep. It tends to be spacious, melodic, and less cluttered than pop-country.

History

George Strait's early catalog, Michael Martin Murphey's revivalist Western work, Chris LeDoux's rodeo grit, and later Western-minded traditionalists kept cowboy themes alive inside contemporary country. The style continues wherever modern country remembers that there are still plains west of the food court.
