The radio-industry abbreviation for middle-of-the-road pop: safe, melodic, mass-appeal material balanced between rock and easy-listening. Clean arrangements, lush but controlled orchestration, polished vocals and singalong choruses define it. Production is conservative and warm, engineered for broad family programming where nothing jars and every melody lands familiar.

History

MOR as a programming term governed adult pop radio from the late 1960s through the early 1980s, slotting acts too gentle for rock but more current than easy-listening. Manilow, Diamond and Streisand were its commercial anchors. The format steadily merged into Adult Contemporary, with 'MOR' surviving mostly as a descriptive label for that smooth mass-appeal lineage.
