Moombahton is a mid-tempo club style built from Dutch-house synths slowed toward reggaeton and dancehall bounce, usually around the 108-112 BPM pocket. It keeps EDM's builds and drops but swaps the straight festival stomp for a swaggering dembow-informed groove. The style is party-functional and hybrid by design: Latin vocals, chopped percussion, sirens, bass stabs, and big-room hooks can all sit on a beat that feels both Caribbean and electronic.
History
Washington, DC DJ Dave Nada famously coined the style after slowing Dutch-house records at a party for a Latin crowd, turning Afrojack's remix of "Moombah" into a dembow-paced club tool. Nadastrom, Munchi, Dillon Francis, Diplo, Tittsworth, Alvin Risk, Sazon Booya, and Mad Decent helped push the sound through blogs, EPs, and compilations. Its named peak cooled quickly, but its rhythmic idea survived inside Major Lazer records, Latin EDM, reggaeton club edits, and pop hits such as "Mi Gente."
