History
The roots run through Buchla and Moog systems, Morton Subotnick, Suzanne Ciani, early electronic studios, and later Eurorack culture. In the 2010s, modular synthesis became a visible performance and recording practice through artists such as Alessandro Cortini, Caterina Barbieri, Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, Sarah Davachi, Richard Devine, Keith Fullerton Whitman, Colin Benders, Floating Points, Kelly Moran, and Hainbach. The style links vintage synthesis history with modern experimental sound design.
