Modern Traditional Country

Modern traditional country keeps fiddle, steel, shuffle, and classic vocal styling intact but records them with contemporary low-end weight and cleaner stereo detail. It sounds current in fidelity while old-school in melodic behavior, lyrical framing, and instrumental hierarchy.

History

After mainstream country spent years favoring pop and rock textures, a newer crop of artists pulled the sound back toward Strait, Haggard, and Jackson without becoming strict retro reenactors. Sturgill Simpson, Jon Pardi, Midland, Cody Johnson, Charley Crockett, and related artists helped make tradition fashionable again for both radio and roots audiences.
