History
The revival followed the late recognition of R. L. Burnside and Junior Kimbrough through Fat Possum Records, documentaries, touring, and rock audiences hungry for raw alternatives to polished blues. North Mississippi Allstars, Cedric Burnside, Duwayne Burnside, Kenny Brown, Alvin Youngblood Hart, Luther Dickinson, and Garry Burnside carried the style forward while honoring McDowell, Burnside, Kimbrough, Hemphill, and Turner lineages. The revival influenced garage blues, jam-band blues, Americana, indie roots, and Grammy-recognized contemporary blues recordings.
