Modern Country is the full-band, modern-production extension of country after the neotraditional boom broke. It favors punchy low end, polished guitars, melodic choruses, and cleaner, brighter vocal production than classic country, while tolerating a wide range of outside influences.

History

The lane formed as the format moved past strictly traditional revivalism and embraced Keith Urban's guitar polish, Rascal Flatts' pop power-ballad writing, Jason Aldean's rock edge, and later the streaming-era dominance of Luke Combs and Morgan Wallen. It became the default language of mainstream country because it was flexible enough to host pop, rock, romantic balladry, and trap-lite percussion without abandoning commercial country identity.
