Modern Acoustic Blues uses acoustic guitar, resonator, harmonica, hand percussion or small ensemble settings to make blues feel intimate and current. It may draw from Delta, Piedmont, country blues, gospel or folk, but modern recording clarity and contemporary lyrics keep it from sounding like archival reenactment. History

Acoustic blues never disappeared, but the modern form gained visibility through folk revival veterans, instructional culture, boutique roots labels and artists who treated old forms as living craft. Keb' Mo', Eric Bibb, Rory Block, Corey Harris, Guy Davis, Doug MacLeod, Jontavious Willis and Taj Mahal each offered a different route into acoustic tradition: polished, scholarly, theatrical, rural, spiritual or songwriterly.
