Microglitch is a tiny-scale glitch sound: clicks, cuts, pops, buffer dust, sine tones, reduced rhythm, and microscopic edits arranged with minimal control. It is quieter and more detailed than maximal glitch or drill & bass, often close to microsound and lowercase music. The appeal is precision: very small events feel architectural.
History
Microglitch grew from Mille Plateaux's clicks-and-cuts era, Raster-Noton, 12k, minimal techno, laptop improvisation, and artists who treated digital artifacts as compositional atoms. SND, Alva Noto, Ryoji Ikeda, Jan Jelinek, Taylor Deupree, Frank Bretschneider, Byetone, Sutekh, Kit Clayton, Farben, Shuttle358, and Vladislav Delay shaped the field. Its influence is widespread in minimal techno, sound art, UI/game sound, and high-detail experimental production.
