Mantra Meditation
Located in 1 route
Mantra Meditation is built around repeated sacred syllables or short devotional phrases, usually over drones, soft harmonium, tanpura-like sustain, light hand percussion, or gently expanding ensemble textures. More melodic and vocal than drone meditation, it relies on repetition, breath, and collective resonance rather than harmonic surprise.
History
Although mantra is ancient, the modern recorded subgenre took shape when devotional chant entered Western yoga, retreat, and wellness circuits through LPs, cassettes, and later kirtan festivals and streaming platforms. Artists such as Deva Premal, Krishna Das, Snatam Kaur, Jai Uttal, White Sun, and Jonathan Goldman helped stabilize an accessible recorded form that sits between spiritual practice, world/new age production, and contemplative listening.
