Mainstage is a performance category more than a tight genre: the kind of electronic record that can command the biggest stage at a mixed-genre dance festival. It favors immediate identity, large dynamic contrast, clear drops, and arrangements that survive huge systems, MC hype, fireworks, and short attention spans. The tag can include big-room house, progressive EDM, festival trap, future rave, tech-house crowd records, and techno hybrids when they are arranged for headline spectacle.
History
The category became visible when festival culture turned DJs into headline acts and stages into branded visual environments. During the early-2010s boom, records were often previewed as anonymous IDs in festival sets and later released after crowd demand built online. Although the classic big-room template faded, the mainstage role never disappeared; it simply rotates through new production languages, from tech-house drops to darker techno leads and pop-facing collaborations.
