History
Sparked by renewed interest in the 2000s and 2010s, driven partly by Menelik Shabazz's film "The Story of Lovers Rock," Soul Jazz reissues and continued UK sound-system play, the revival produced fresh romantic-reggae stars: Jamaica's Romain Virgo and Christopher Martin built careers on modern lovers hits like "Cheaters Prayer," while Alaine, Jah Cure and the reggae-revival wave kept sweet singing central to the genre. In Britain, Hollie Cook and others carried a new lovers-rock aesthetic, and veterans such as Carroll Thompson returned to acclaim. The revival re-established romantic reggae as a living, charting tradition rather than a period piece.
