History
As the lounge became a defining mid-century social space, crooners adapted from theater-scale and swing-band presentation to the more tactile aesthetics of bars, hotels, and casinos; Dean Martin, Bobby Darin, Jack Jones, Matt Monro, Tony Bennett, and Andy Williams each helped define a version of crooning built on ease, urbane charm, and lightly ironic sophistication.
