Lone Star Blues

Lone Star Blues is the broad modern statewide sound: Texas phrasing, roomy groove, roadhouse shuffles, soul-blues warmth, and enough modern production to travel from festivals to rock radio to adult roots playlists. It is less a single old pocket than the shared modern dialect of Texas blues players across scenes.

History

By the time the 1980s revival hit, Texans could draw simultaneously from Blind Lemon, T-Bone, Houston R&B, Austin club blues, and blues-rock. The phrase fits a post-revival identity heard in artists from Stevie Ray Vaughan to Gary Clark Jr. and Ruthie Foster, where “Texas blues” became both a historical tradition and a current brand of musicianship.
