History
Lo-fi pop descends from R. Stevie Moore and Ariel Pink's cassette experiments and the four-track tradition, then went mainstream when laptop tools let young artists release rough-edged hits. Clairo's accidentally lo-fi 'Pretty Girl' (2017) proved limited gear was no barrier to virality, and a wave of bedroom producers embraced the hiss-forward sound as a badge of authenticity.
