The blurriest, most narcotic edge of lo-fi: smeared, heavily filtered samples drowned in reverb and tape wow, drums softened to a pulse and melodies left half-dissolved behind a wall of hiss. Where standard lo-fi stays jazzy and crisp, haze emphasizes diffusion, drift and a sun-faded, underwater dreaminess over groove.
History
Emerging mid-2010s within the SoundCloud and Bandcamp lo-fi underground, hazy producers like Saib, eevee and bsd.u pushed the sound toward thicker atmosphere and dub-soft textures, looser loops and more low-end murk. The aesthetic spread through 'chill/relax' YouTube channels and 'sleep beats' compilations craving softer, foggier listening than crisp study-hop.
