The clipping-as-instrument extreme of DIY rap: vocals and 808s pushed so far past digital ceiling they shatter into harsh fuzz and red-lined saturation. Beats are skeletal, hooks chant-like, the mix gleefully broken. Distortion is the point, not an accident, turning cheap setups and overdriven masters into a coherent, aggressive lo-fi signature.
History
An aesthetic strain within the SoundCloud generation, it grew from artists recording on headphone mics and deliberately maxing out levels for confrontational texture. Smokepurpp and Lil Pump's earliest cuts and the Florida underground codified the fried sound; producers like Ronny J built whole beats around blown-out 808s. The look bled into trap-metal and rage by the late 2010s.
