Light Rock
Located in 1 route
Light Rock keeps rock instrumentation—electric guitar, drums, bass, keyboards, and band vocals—but reduces distortion, aggression, and rhythmic weight in favor of melody and adult polish. Tempos commonly sit from 70 to 125 BPM, with clean guitar tones, mid-tempo grooves, and choruses built for broad radio rather than rebellion. It is rock that has learned to hold the door open and maybe ask about your week.
History
Light Rock formed as 1970s soft rock, album-oriented radio, and adult contemporary overlapped, then carried into the 1980s through arena ballads and carefully produced mainstream pop-rock. Fleetwood Mac, Eagles, America, Chicago, Elton John, Billy Joel, Journey, Toto, Phil Collins, and Bryan Adams all made records that retained rock credibility while fitting softer radio contexts. The style shaped AC rock stations, power ballads, workplace radio, and the adult pop rock of the 1990s and 2000s.
