Spanish-language trap from the urbano world: deep sliding 808s, crisp trap hats and dark minor-key synths fused with reggaeton's dembow undertow. Vocals blend rapping with melodic Auto-Tune over themes of street life, money, sex and ascent. Heavier and more sensual than US trap, built for the club.

History

Rooted in mid-2000s Puerto Rico via Arcángel and De La Ghetto, it crystallized around 2016 when La Ocasión (De La Ghetto, Arcángel, Ozuna, Anuel AA) globalized the sound. Bad Bunny's Soy Peor (2016) and Anuel AA's Real Hasta la Muerte (2018) drove its worldwide explosion across Latin America and the US.
