Latin lounge is a broad, soft-focus cocktail style drawing on bolero, bossa nova, light mambo, cha-cha, tropical brass-pop, and romantic Latin standards without tipping into full dance-floor intensity. The arrangements prize sway, polish, and a sense of cosmopolitan escape.
History
The style emerged in hotel bars, supper clubs, and crossover LP markets where Latin rhythms were repackaged for adult international taste, linking artists as different as Xavier Cugat, Herb Alpert, Walter Wanderley, and Sérgio Mendes; its repertoire survived because it worked equally well as lifestyle ambience, dinner music, or a stylish detour from straight Anglo-American pop.
