Idol-pop built around the drop: big-room and electro-house synths, festival builds, future-bass swells, and increasingly hyperpop-style distortion. Verses sprint toward a beat-drop chorus or an instrumental dance break designed for choreography. Vocal chops, sidechained pads, and aggressive low-end give it a club-meets-arena charge distinct from softer dance-pop idol tracks.
History
2NE1's Teddy-produced electro-house anthems (2011) and EXO's 'Wolf'-era drops planted EDM deep in idol-pop. The mid-2010s global EDM wave pushed labels toward festival builds; by the 2020s aespa's harsh, techno-and-hyperpop 'Whiplash' direction and similar bass-heavy title tracks made aggressive electronic production a defining fourth-generation signature.
