Jungle

Jungle is breakbeat hardcore after a reggae sound-system awakening: chopped Amen breaks, sub-bass pressure, ragga or MC samples, rave stabs, and a glorious sense that the track might fall apart but somehow lands harder because of it. It is rougher and more syncopated than later streamlined drum & bass.
History
The style grew in Black British and multicultural UK rave culture through pirate radio, dubplate circulation, and producers who fused hardcore rave with dancehall and sound-system bass. Shy FX, Remarc, DJ Hype, 4hero, Omni Trio, and countless others laid a foundation that later drum & bass would both refine and repeatedly return to.
