Juke / Footwork is the combined Chicago continuum where ghetto-house party tracks accelerated into 160 BPM battle music. Juke supplies the party chants, simple loops, and fast house pressure; footwork abstracts that material into chopped samples, off-kilter snares, sub-bass, and dancer-challenge rhythms. The label is useful for entries where the music sits between party juke and fully fractured footwork.
History
The continuum grew from Chicago's West and South Side dance culture, Dance Mania records, footwork crews, high-school mixtape exchange, and later YouTube/DVD circulation. RP Boo, DJ Rashad, DJ Spinn, DJ Clent, Traxman, DJ Roc, DJ Nate, DJ Manny, DJ Earl, DJ Taye, Jana Rush, and the Teklife network brought the local sound to an international audience without severing it from dance battles. Planet Mu's Bangs & Works series and Rashad's Double Cup became key gateways for listeners outside Chicago.
