Drill bars dropped onto Jersey club engines: the bed squeak and triplet five-count kick pattern of Newark club music collides with sliding 808s and menacing drill cadences. The result is faster and bouncier than standard drill, made for chanting in the club rather than the corner, hyperkinetic and aggressively danceable.
History
Sparked in early 2022 when Newark's Bandmanrill went viral rapping drill over Jersey club beats, joined by Bronx drill figure Sha EK. 'Jiggy in Jersey' and 'Close Friends' set the template, fusing two neighboring East Coast scenes thanks to Jersey's proximity to New York. The hybrid quickly became a 2022 summer signature.
