Jazz Country is a broader umbrella for country music deeply informed by jazz harmony, phrasing, tone color, or improvisational structure. It can range from western-swing ensembles to guitar-forward hybrids, but the common thread is country identity spoken with jazz grammar.

History

The style grew first through western swing, then through guitarists and arrangers who kept jazz inflections inside country performance even when full swing bands faded. Chet Atkins, Hank Garland, Danny Gatton, Junior Brown, and revival players illustrate how long this conversation has lasted.
