History
Group Sounds and folk-rock emerged late-1960s; Happy End pioneered rock sung in Japanese. The late-1980s visual-kei movement, led by X Japan, fused speed metal with kabuki-like spectacle. Through the 1990s B'z, L'Arc-en-Ciel and Glay sold millions, and anime tie-ins later carried J-rock bands like One OK Rock to global audiences.
