Industrial Dance is the club-facing side of industrial music: pounding programmed drums, distorted guitars or synths, shouted vocals, sampled noise, EBM basslines, and tracks built to move bodies in dark alternative rooms. It includes Wax Trax!-era industrial, EBM, industrial rock crossovers, futurepop, and aggrotech staples. The sound is less about taxonomy than function: industrial music that DJs can use to fill a floor.
History
Industrial Dance grew from early industrial, EBM, Chicago/Wax Trax! club culture, goth/industrial nights, and 1990s industrial rock visibility. Ministry, Front 242, Nitzer Ebb, KMFDM, Nine Inch Nails, Front Line Assembly, My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult, Skinny Puppy, VNV Nation, Covenant, Apoptygma Berzerk, Combichrist, and Funker Vogt became recurring dark-club names. The style remains active because goth/industrial DJs mix older EBM with newer dark electronic, aggrotech, and industrial rock.
