Indie Sleaze Pop

tagStarted 2005Peak 2007-2012Last big hit still active

Grimy, hedonistic blog-era pop where indie, dance-punk and electro collide: blown-out synths, jagged disco-punk basslines, flash-photo glamour and shouty, ironic vocals. Sweaty and party-ready but defiantly un-glossy, it pairs neon electroclash energy with a thrift-store cool—dirty, danceable hooks made for warehouse parties and American Apparel-era nightlife.

History

A 2021-coined label for the mid/late-2000s scene that fused New York indie attitude with dance-punk and electroclash. CSS, MGMT's 'Oracular Spectacular' and Uffie's blog-house bratiness embodied its glittery, hedonistic pop wing, soundtracked by warehouse parties and flash photography. The aesthetic saw a TikTok-fueled revival in the early 2020s.
