The grimy, hedonistic crossover of indie rock and electro: dance-punk basslines, blown-out synths, ragged guitars and party-anthem swagger soundtracking American Apparel, flash-photo nightlife and blog-house excess. Sweaty, maximalist and ironic — skinny jeans, smeared eyeliner and 4 a.m. warehouse energy captured in the Cobrasnake's harsh flash.

History

Growing out of the post-punk and dance-punk scenes around 2005-2009, indie sleaze fused guitar bands with electroclash and new rave via blogs, the Cobrasnake's photography and MySpace. LCD Soundsystem, the Klaxons and MGMT defined it before the term was retroactively coined and revived on TikTok around 2021.
