Indie Sleaze Dance is the messy 2000s party edge of indie dance: bloghouse distortion, electroclash residue, dance-punk, skinny-jeans guitar bands, flash photography, fashion-party DJ sets, and internet-era cool-kid chaos. It is as much a cultural tag as a strict genre, but musically it points to abrasive synths, shouted hooks, disco-punk basslines, lo-fi glamour, and tracks that moved between clubs, blogs, and house parties.
History
The sound maps onto mid-to-late-2000s nightlife shaped by Myspace, MP3 blogs, Vice/party photography, DFA, Ed Banger, Kitsuné, Modular, Trash, and downtown New York/London scenes. LCD Soundsystem, The Rapture, Justice, Uffie, CSS, Crystal Castles, The Teenagers, Klaxons, MSTRKRFT, Digitalism, Simian Mobile Disco, and Soulwax became common reference points. The 2020s revival reframed the era through nostalgia, even when critics note that "indie sleaze" was originally more scene/aesthetic than genre label.
