History
Coalesced in the mid-2000s as indie bands swapped distortion for acoustic textures and stacked vocal harmonies. Fleet Foxes' 2008 debut and Bon Iver's 'For Emma' set the template; Mumford & Sons and The Lumineers pushed the foot-stomp, banjo-driven strain to global charts around 2010-13. It defined a decade of festival folk and adult-alternative radio.
