Idol Pop

Manufactured pop acts assembled by producers and managers, often through auditions or TV talent franchises: feel-good, choreographed, mixed- or single-gender groups with cross-promoted television series, merchandise, and tightly managed wholesome images. Sound is sunny, hook-forward dance-pop with bright vocal blends engineered for family-wide chart appeal.
History
British impresario Simon Fuller, fresh off the Spice Girls, built S Club 7 (1998) with its own BBC sitcom; Steps, Westlife and Hear'Say followed. The model formalized via Pop Idol/American Idol talent shows, which industrialized the recruit-train-debut pipeline and fed it into the broader K-pop idol system overseas.
