History
Crystallized when Spotify launched its 'hyperpop' playlist in 2019, curated partly by young Discord-scene artists. 100 gecs' '1000 gecs' (2019) became the template; teenagers glaive, ericdoa, and midwxst fused it with emo-rap into 'digicore.' The pandemic and TikTok supercharged the bedroom scene, and rappers like Lil Uzi Vert flirted with its textures in the early 2020s.
